On our journeys across Asia we discovered different ceramic flutes for the first time. After we acquired a good knowledge and skills, we had the idea of producing ocarinas on our own.
In 1987 we produced our first ocarinas made of terracotta clay in South India and played music on them at festivals and in markets. People's interest in our instruments was great and so we started selling ocarinas once in a while.
After some time we decided to produce ceramic instruments on a large scale and moved to England to establish a small ocarina workshop. In the end of 1988 we produced different shapes in Doncaster and sold them in markets throughout England.
In 1989 we moved to Austria and established the current Ocarina-Workshop in Oberkappel in the Mühlviertel of Upper Austria. Due to the constantly growing interest, we decided to register our business "Musikinstrumente aus Ton" ("musical instruments made of clay") in 1990.
