Urbach (Baden-Württemberg)

Urbach is a municipality in the district of Rems-Murr in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is east of Stuttgart in Baden-Württemberg. It belongs to the metropolitan region of Stuttgart.HistoryMiddle AgesUrbach was first mentioned in 1181 as Uracbach: Frederick I, Holy Roman Emperor "Barbarossa" issued on May 25, 1181 a certificate in which he took the monastery Adelberg under his protection.Modern TimesOber-and Unterurbach belonged initially to Oberamt Schorndorf and came in 1938 to district Waiblingen. In 1970 Ober- and Unterurbach were merged to Urbach, from 1973 Urbach belonged to Rems-Murr-Kreis. Oberurbach had a more rural character and Unterurbach a more industrial character.CultureBuildings The Afra Church is a Protestant church with parts built over the course of the 16th to 18th centuries. The Baptist Church was finished in 1999.
