Unser Verein
Wir sind ein entwicklungspolitischer Verein mit Sitz in Cottbus, der sich 1991 gegründet hat. Unser Name „Carpus“ ist dem lateinischen Namen des Apitong-Baumes „Dipterocarpus Grandiflorus“ entnommen. Diese Baumart wächst in den unteren Gebirgszonen der Regenwälder Südostasiens und war Ende der 80er, Anfang der 90er Jahre aufgrund der massiven Abholzung für die weltweite Möbel- und Papierindustrie vom Aussterben bedroht. Seit der Vereinsgründung verbindet uns eine enge Partnerschaft und Freundschaft mit der philippinischen Provinz Palawan.

Unser Leitgedanke
Unsere Vision ist eine nachhaltige und global gerechte Welt. Wir sind der Ansicht, dass es dazu vor allem einer Bewusstseins- und Verhaltensänderung der Bevölkerung in den Ländern des Globalen Nordens bedarf. Kurz gesagt: Verbraucht der Globale Norden weniger Ressourcen ermöglicht dies eine Verbesserung der Entwicklungschancen für die Länder des Globalen Südens.

Unsere Tätigkeitsfelder
Wir unterstützen die Umwelt- und Menschenrechtsarbeit mehrerer Nichtregierungsorganisationen in der philippinischen Provinz Palawan. Die Mitwirkung an den Projekten durch Carpus beschränkt sich dabei auf die Beratung der philippinischen Partnerorganisationen und die Akquise von Finanzmitteln für Projekte zum Schutz des Regenwaldes und der Armutsbekämpfung, insbesondere für indigene Volksgruppen. Die Erfahrungen aus den Auslandsprojekten fließen direkt in die Bildungsarbeit unseres Vereins . In Deutschland, hauptsächlich in den neuen Bundesländern, führt Carpus Projekttage des Globalen Lernens an Schulen durch. In Brandenburg koordinieren wir gemeinsam mit anderen Vereinen die Brandenburger Entwicklungspolitischen Bildungs- und Informationstage (BREBIT). Daneben organisieren wir jährlich Lernreisen in die Philippinen sowie einen deutsch-philippinischen Schüler_innenaustausch. Darüber hinaus beraten wir Brandenburger Kommunen, im Bereich des kommunalen entwicklungspolitischen Engagements.

Our association
We are a developmental organization based in Cottbus, founded in 1991. Our name "Carpus" is taken from the Latin name of the Apitong tree "Dipterocarpus grandiflorus". This species grows in the lower mountain areas of the rainforests of Southeast Asia and is endangered due to the massive deforestation for the global furniture and paper industry in the late 80s and early 90s. For many years we enjoy a close partnership and friendship with the Philippine province of Palawan.

Our guiding principle
Our vision is a sustainable and equitable global world. We believe above all this requires a change of awareness and behavior in the countries of the Global North. If people in the Global North uses fewer resources, this allows improving the development prospects for the countries of the Global South.

Our fields of activity
We support the environment and human rights work of several NGOs in the Philippine province of Palawan. Our participation in those projects is limited to the acquisition of funds for our Philippine partner organizations. We also give advice in writing proposals for projects of rainforest protection and poverty reduction, particularly for indigenous communities. The experiences from the projects of our Philippine partners are being used in the educational work for sustainable development in Germany. Mainly in the new federal states Carpus leads project days of global learning at schools. In the state of Brandenburg together with other NGOs we coordinate the Brandenburg development policy education and information days (BREBIT). In addition, we organize educational trips to the Philippines, a German-Philippine School Exchange Program. We also advise Brandenburg municipalities in the area of local development policy engagement.
