Between education and professional life in dance


After completing professional training, subsequent progression to a job often does not happen instantaneously or automatically. This is what most young people experience today, no matter what their field of activity.

After training in dancing, only a few dancers manage to jump into an engagement right away.

Young dancers must first find out, where their individual talents can be best applied and how they achieve engagement at the right place. For this they need time, and often also, support and companionship.

The Performance Year is offering assistance to dancers. Graduates from traditional or contemporary dancing schools have a possibility to gradually immerse themselves in the professional life of a stage dancer.

The Performance Year – Programme provides the obligatory daily classical and modern training at a professional level, as well as the following subjects:

Preparation for Auditions – classical and contemporary repertory – Stage Experience –
Choreography Workshops – Assessment of Teaching Abilities – Prevention of injury-
performance-tour Switzerland

Broadening the knowledge in these areas has as a goal to make the young dancer aware of his/her assets and weaknesses and to make him/her capable of a realistic self-assessment. Personal coaching will be in the centre of all teaching.

During the Performance Year basic practical advice about the process of obtaining a job will also be given. Topics include selecting the most promising auditions from today’s job market, creating favourable applications in terms of text, pictures, sound and video, as well as the appropriate behaviour to be used when dancing in front of someone or when presenting ones own artistic project.

The Performance Year is an independent institution and is run by Malou Fenaroli Leclerc, founder of the Swiss Professional Ballet School (TaZ). Main Choreographer are Jacqueline Beck, Franz Brodmann, FéLlix Duméril, Jochen Heckmann, Antonio Gomes, Cathy Sharp, Igor Piovano.

The Performance Year is aimed at dancing school graduates, at currently unemployed dancers who are looking to enlarge their capabilities and to redirect their skills, as well as at professional dancers.
