The *foundationClass strongly agrees with the notion that what is generally referred to as the “refugee crisis” actually constitutes an opportunity for Germany and Europe as a whole.
While refugees and asylum seekers bring with them a magnitude of diverse resources and skills that are urgently sought after in Germany, access to the labour market is usually limited to the industrial and care sectors. Like previous generations of migrants in Germany, asylum seekers and refugees are by and large structurally excluded from participating in the German cultural and arts sectors, which in fact are in a dire need of diversification.
Rather than providing short term solutions and services to refugees and asylum seekers, which in many cases mainly benefit the primarily White German facilitators or charitable institutions, the *foundationClass attempts to be a legal tool that prepares the ground for refugees' and asylum seekers' equal access to the institutionalised arts and cultural sectors.
By providing the infrastructure of the weißensee academy of art, including the use of facilities, as well as administrative help, the *foundationClass supports its participants to create or reconstruct lost portfolios, documents, and materials in order to be able to formally apply at a German art academy.
The *foundationClass hopes to create an environment in which all of the participants' resources are being validated, and where new formats of skill sharing and knowledge transfer may be developed.
Ultimately the *foundationClass provides an opportunity for weißensee art academy to generate a new perception of itself as an educational arts institution.


Die *foundationClass vertritt die Auffassung, dass die sogenannte “Flüchtlingskrise” vor allem eine Chance für Deutschland und Europa darstellt.
Geflüchtete und Asylbewerber*innen bringen viele Ressourcen und Fähigkeiten mit, die in Deutschland händeringend benötigt werden. Trotz der Diversität wird der Zugang zum Arbeitsmarkt jedoch fast ausschließlich auf den Bereich der Industrie und der Care-Arbeit limitiert. Wie bereits bei vorherigen Generationen von Migrant*innen in Deutschland ist die Partizipation von Asylbewerber*innen und Geflüchteten im Kunst- und Kulturbereich nicht vorgesehen obwohl diese Bereiche einen dringenden Bedarf an Ausweitung und Diversifizierung haben.
Anstatt kurzfristiger Lösungen oder Beschäftigung für Asylbewerber*innen und Geflüchtete, die in vielen Fällen vor allem den mehrheitlich Weißen deutschen Vermittler*innen oder Trägern zugute kommen, versucht die *foundationClass ein Rechtsinstrument zu sein, das einen möglichst gleichberechtigten Zugang für Geflüchtete und Asylbewerber*innen in die institutionalisierten Kunst- und Kulturbereiche schafft.
Durch die Bereitstellung der Infrastruktur der weißensee kunsthochschule berlin, inklusive des Zugangs zu Lehre und Einrichtungen, sowie Hilfe im Umgang mit Behörden unterstützt die *foundationClass die Teilnehmer*innen dabei verloren gegangene Unterlagen, Abbildungen, Belege, Portfolios und Materialien zur Qualifikation für die Zulassungsprüfungen an deutschen Kunsthochschulen zu rekonstruieren und zu erstellen.
Die *foundationClass möchte ein Umfeld schaffen innerhalb dessen die Ressourcen aller Teilnehmer*innen validiert werden und neue Formate des Austauschs von Fähigkeiten und Wissen entstehen können.
Letztlich bietet die *foundationClass der weißensee kunsthochschule berlin die Möglichkeit sich selbst als Kunst- und Kultur vermittelnde Institution neu zu reflektieren.
