Fraenkelufer on the canal in Berlin-Kreuzberg is a traditional synagogue first opened in 1916. Today it reflects the diversity of Berlin's Jewish community, home to native Berliners, Russian emigres, and young people and families new to the city from Israel and across the Jewish diaspora. Fraenkelufer combines conservative prayer and regular ritual with festivities such as community meals on Shabbat and holidays, family-focused events and outreach to the neighborhood the synagogue belongs to. Fraenkelufer is an open place that welcomes guests who want to experience the full meaning of a modern, active Jewish lifestyle.
