The main Guild label itself has built an enviable universal reputation during almost half a century of existence, in seeking out young very gifted musicians and giving them the opportunity of making records, thus bringing their qualities to the widest possible audience. This policy has often gone hand in hand with recording unjustly neglected music for the first time, in the best sound that modern technology can provide. Many of the resultant albums have won considerable plaudits from the press and media generally, and the vast range of music now available on the Guild label bears witness to this – in particular, the important ground-breaking series of recordings of music by Swiss composers and artists has won international acclaim – but the standard repertoire has not been ignored, with many outstanding issues of established masterpieces receiving wide praise.


GUILD LIGHT MUSIC

Guild Light Music is now established as undoubtedly one of the world’s leading labels in restoring to the catalogues the cream of the vast repertoire of light music of the past – original recordings from the 1920s to the 1960s, with very many often conducted or performed by the composers themselves, or original recordings made by those artists who were most closely associated with such attractive, tuneful and admirably written music, the sole intention of which was to entertain. These original recordings, and there are now over 100 individual CDs in the series - which has been under the incomparable direction of one of the world’s specialists in this music, David Ades - have all been outstandingly well transferred to produce – often for the first time – the depth and quality of the original recordings so that this music, one time known and loved by millions all over the world, is now reaching new audiences which have previously been denied such treasures.

From the incomparable riches of commercial recordings of the past, from the great heydays of the classical recording industry in the forty-years-and-more of the 33 1/3rpm long-playing era, to the release of previously unissued recordings, and long-forgotten broadcasts by some of the greatest musicians of the twentieth-century, from complete operas by legendary casts and conductors to the solo instrumental and vocal recitals, once long unavailable but now lovingly restored in the best possible sound, the Guild Historical series is now a comprehensive brand leader in its field.
