The Leibniz-Zentrum für Marine Tropenforschung in Bremen, Germany is focused on scientific monitoring of tropical marine ecosystems and tropical coastal environments in a biological, ecological as well as a social-economic context. The centre evaluates the regional and global changes caused by climate change, urbanisation, tourism, and other factors related to human behaviour and biodiversity.The centre was founded in 1991 by the Verein zur Förderung der wissenschaftlichen Forschung in der Freien Hansestadt Bremen. It belongs to the University of Bremen and is a participating member of MARUM and the Konsortium Deutscher Meeresforschung.
