Our aims and philosophy: vodka for connoisseurs

Russian vodka rituals based on expressions such as “bottoms up” are well-known all over the world. It goes without saying that there is more focus on the ritual and the effect than on enjoyment itself. The image fits in that the term “vodka” is mirrored in many languages, such as “Wässerchen” in German (little water).

However, vodka can also be a luxury beverage. This is proved by the “Mardovspirt” distillery based in Saransk, the capital of the Russian Federal Republic of Mordovia – one of the oldest spirits producers in Russia, whose predecessors were contemporaries of the Czars. This company was one of the first that dared introduce new production methods and quality standards – among which the development of new filtration techniques that allow the production of a highly pure drinking alcohol free from distracting taste components or the harmful accompanying substances frequently criticized by food experts.

The luxury-class drinking alcohol serves Mardovspirt not only as the base to produce its own vodka, it has now become the base to create spirits of a totally new quality class by other producers. The closest to this fine base vodka is the Mordovia Lux, which is excellently suited to highly aromatic mixed drinks and delicious cocktails.

The same base is used to obtain the Natsionalnaja Vodka, which corresponds in taste and aroma to the classic Russian vodka. It can be enjoyed pure or it can be used as the base for exciting mixes and cocktails or to season sauces, dips and creams – wherever the classic vodka aroma is needed as an enriching taste component.

Finer and more discrete vodkas are the “Mordovia Premium”, ”Vastoma” and “Firmennaja region 13” which are also ideal in mixes. However, it provides an interesting wealth of tastes and aromas for those who wish to enjoy a special class vodka on its own. Specially recommended for epicures: first take a small sip cold on the tongue, then allow it to develop its full aroma in the mouth and palate. This is comparable to a tannin-rich red wine full of extract which arouses the taste buds, but not when it is gulped down quickly.

The top notch, however, is taken at Mordovspirt by their exclusive product “Mlechnij Put” – a vodka of the ultimate top class. This vodka is regularly rated in the topmost ranks and sweeps the board with awards and medals. A vodka that is definitely not drunk in great gulps by connoisseurs, but is tasted in small sips just like a cask-ripened cognac or armagnac and honored by a gentle caress of tongue and palate.
