Pfyn - Kulturhauptstadt der Schweiz 2011/12

Die Schweiz hat wieder eine Kulturhauptstadt - nach Romoos / LU - trat 2011 Pfyn die Nachfolge an. Pfyn ist eine kleine Thurgauer Gemeinde mit 1936 Einwohnern in den beiden Ortsteilen Pfyn und Dettighofen und Pfyn hat auch ein Städtli - die Häuser, die auf den Resten eines spätrömischen Kastells aufgebaut sind - also ist die 'Hauptstadt? nicht ganz so weit hergeholt.

Pfyn kann auf 5700 Jahre Geschichte zurückblicken - beginnend mit einer archäologischen Fundstelle aus der Jungsteinzeit, einem Römischen Kastell aus der Spätantike, einem wahrhaften mittelalterlichen Tyrannen, bis zur Industrialisierung und in die heutige Zeit.

In Pfyn gibt es über 40 aktive Vereine, die das Leben prägen. Seit 12 Jahren organisiert das Kulturforum kulturelle Veranstaltungen und die grosse Zahl an Kulturschaffenden prägen das Dorf.
Das Transitorische Museum veranstaltet Ausstellungen und Vorträge und Pfyn ist dazu noch malerisch gelegen - im Thurtal umgeben von Wäldern und Wiesen, Auen und Aeckern, die zum ausspannen und wandern einladen.

Für die Kulturhauptstadtjahre hat Pfyn viel geplant:
Die Vereine und das Gewerbe planen Expo Ad Fines - ein grosses Fest im Juni. Als Zeichen und Symbol für die Kulturhauptstadt baut Pfyn ein temporäres Amphitheater für das ein Architekturwettbewerb veranstaltet wurde. Neben einem Schwingfest und zahlreichen weiteren Veranstaltungen, sind die 'Demokratischen Kunstwochen' das Herzstück des Programms: zehn Künstlerinnen und Künstler aus Aegypten, Deutschland, Grossbritannien/Uruguay, Italien, den Niederlanden und der Schweiz erarbeiten während eines zweiwöchigen Aufenthalts partizipatorische künstlerische Projekte mit der Bevölkerung.

Switzerland finally has again a swiss cultural capital! Pfyn followed Romoos / Lu in 2009. Pfyn is a small village in Thurgovia. There are 1936 inhabitants living in the two parts - Pfyn and Dettighofen. Pfyn has got a 'Staedtli' - a little town/city - the houses built on the remains of a late roman castle - so there is a 'city' in Pfyn to make it look a bit like a capital.

Pfyn's history goes back 5700 years - starting in late stone age with a pile dwellers village, a roman castle, a bad medieval tyrant up to industrialization and to nowadays.

There are more than 40 clubs and associations of all kind in Pfyn and 'Kulturforum' is organizing cultural events since 12 years. There is quite a number of artists living and working in Pfyn. The Transitory Museum at Pfyn is organizing exhibitions and lectures.
Pfyn is beautifully situated in the Thur valley - and you will find forests and natural resorts to rest, hike and relax.

The cultural capital program of Pfyn is impressive:
The clubs and associations and the local trade are organizing Expo Ad Fines - a huge Festival. As a special symbol and sign for the cultural capital Pfyn is building a temporary amphitheater - the winning project of an architects competition. Several other events are planned. The heart of the program are the 'democratic art weeks' an artist in residence programm with ten artists from Egypt, Germany, Great Britain/Uruguay, Italy, the Netherlands and Switzerland. The artists are developing participatory artistic projects together with the inhabitants of Pfyn.
