More about Schiller International University, Heidelberg

Founded in 1964 by Dr. Walter Leibrecht, Schiller International University was created as a private American University dedicated to the active development and encouragement of international understanding. As a philosophy professor in the United States, Dr. Leibrecht was so impressed with the personalized instruction in the American college system that he sought to create something similar back in Europe.

The Heidelberg Campus provides an exceptional study environment, here in the romantic German city where more than six hundred years of academic tradition underpin the latest ideas and innovations. Nowhere is education taken more seriously, or pursued in such charming surroundings.

In Heidelberg you can stroll, muse or network where university professors and scholars have walked and talked for centuries. There is even a famous scenic walk across the river that is named for them: Philosophenweg. The Schiller International University campus is situated in the Skylabs buidling, which is the landmark structure of the new high-tech development called Bahnstadt.

The campus is conveniently located near to the main train station and is only 12 minutes from the preserved Old Town and the main shopping district. Cinemas, theaters, pubs, cafes and restaurants are all within easy walking distance. The Heidelberg campus also provides a useful base for activities further afield. We have organized trips to Berlin, Brussels and Strasbourg to explore cultural, social or vocational interests.

Many students take advantage of the location and plan their own travels during vacations.
