Schraplau is a town in the Verbandsgemeinde Weida-Land, part of the district of Saalekreis, in the State of Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany. It is situated approximately 8km northeast of Querfurt. It is also considered part of the Halle-Leipzig metropolitan area.HistoryThe village of Scrabanloch was founded in the 8th century, the exact year remains unknown. Soon after, a castle was built near the settlement. In the 11th century the village received a charter to become a city. Over the time Schraplau has had several names.Town structureSchraplau includes Wilhelm-Fichte-Siedlung as well as the neighborhoods of Trautmanshoehe and Schafsee which are also incorporated but lie outside of the main urbanisation.PoliticsThe incumbent mayor is Roland Richter who has been serving since 1994.EducationSchraplau retains a public elementary school.EconomyMost residents are not employed in Schraplau itself.
