More about Schusterhausl Inn

Everybody talks about giving tourists an insight into local life. As a young traveler to Munich you will often find yourself sleeping in old warehouses or office blocks and visiting biergardens frequented only by other tourists. Your insight into local life rates not much above nil, as it's the people who live there that make up what we would call local life.

So we searched high and low for a place where we could create something special. Firstly for the young people who work here (because this is our home), then the locals and then for young tourists - that place is called Schusterhausl (or the Shoemakers House) and it had been closed since 2007!

But Schusterhausl has a great history - since 1895 the people of this area have been coming to Schusterhausl to meet and embrace the famous Bavarian “Gemütlichkeit ”. Daily we are lucky enough to see different generations of locals enjoying the surroundings and conviviality of a beautiful biergarden - indeed many of the older guests came here 80 years ago as children and they are as excited as anybody to see new life come to Schusterhausl!

Schusterhausl was also the first bar in the world to serve famous Bavarian "weissbier" direct from the tap. Keeping up the beer tradition in one of the worlds home for beers we are the first and only hostel in the world serving fresh beer out of wooden barrels to our guests. Guests also get the chance to crack open a barrel - this can end in the loss of a few litres of beer, but the opportunity to share history with guests and serve beer as it should be served cannot be passed up #freshbeerhere

Keeping it local we try where possible to source everything locally - this ranges from our beer supplier to fresh produce to even our resident DJ Racone.

Geographically speaking Schusterhausl sits as a gateway to the beautiful 5 Lakes District yet only 20 mins from Munich city centre. One of the most famous establishments in the region, we are totally surrounded by forest, near Germering Lake and very close to the old Roman highway linking Salzburg and Augsburg, Schusterhausl is a special place and we welcome the discerning young traveler.
