More about Seiser Alm / Alpe di Siusi

The Seiser Alm holiday area

The Seiser Alm holiday aera, located in the heart of the Dolomites (Unesco Natural World Heritage site), is a part of the province of South Tyrol. It consists of the Seiser Alm, the largest high-altitude plateau in Europe, and the three villages of Castelrotto, Siusi, and Fiè allo Sciliar. Here, on the edge of the Dolomites, nature has always been particularly generous. Plenty of sunshine, healthy air and an enchanting landscape of unequalled beauty make it the ideal place to relax. There is a cosy, family atmosphere: stress and pressure are things people have only heard about.

The picturesque village of Castelrotto, the largest village of the Seiser Alm holiday area at an altitude of more than 1,000 meters above sea level, is full of cheerful, lively people all year round, who appreciate nature's beauty, preserve and revive old traditions, nurture culture and cuisine. Our guests in Castelrotto find quietness and relaxation but also many interesting sports opportunities for all age groups. Shopping in the town centre of Castelrotto means satisfying all needs and tastes.

Siusi is situated at 1000 m above sea level on an uneven, sunny plateau at the foot of the Alpe di Siusi and the Sciliar massif with its two famous peaks “Santner” and “Euringer”, embedded in dense forests and wide meadows and fields. Northwards and westwards the view reaches the snow covered three thousand metre peaks of the main chain of the Alps. Eastwards the beautiful Sciliar - Catinaccio Natural Park is waiting to be discovered, starting directly from Siusi.

The village of Fiè allo Sciliar is situated at an altitude of 880 metres above sea level, on an extensive plateau at the foot of the world-famous Dolomites mountain range. Fiè and its surrounding areas are dominated by the impressive Sciliar mountain, whose highly particular shape has made it the very symbol of South Tyrol. Between the valley floors and the mountain tops ice-age glaciers formed fertile terraces and plateaus, which today enclose the village of Fiè.

The Seiser Alm and the Sciliar with their unmistakable profiles are often found in old legends about witches and magic. And magic still is alive! The Sciliar, South Tyrol’s landmark, dominates the highest mountain plateau in Europe: unmistakable, unique and truly legendary.
The Seiser Alm is the undisputed queen of all high mountain plateaus in the world. It stretches over more than 56 km² with its deepest point at 1,850 metres and the highest at 2,350 metres above sea level. The highest mountain plateau in Europe is one of the most popular winter sports and hiking regions in Europe.
