Skulptur Projekte Muenster

Seit 1977 finden alle 10 Jahre die internationalen Skulptur Projekte in Münster statt. Künstler_innen aus aller Welt werden eingeladen, ortsbezogene Kunstwerke im öffentlichen Raum zu entwickeln – dazu gehören plastische Arbeiten genauso wie temporäre Installationen oder auch Performances.

Die Projekte schreiben sich in das bauliche, historische und soziale Umfeld der Stadt ein. Gleichzeitig weisen sie darüber hinaus: Reflexionen über den Begriff Skulptur fließen ebenso ein wie Themen unserer globalisierten Gegenwart oder Fragen zum Verhältnis von öffentlichem und privatem Raum in Zeiten zunehmender Digitalisierung.

Künstlerischer Leiter der Skulptur Projekte ist Kasper König. Gemeinsam mit den Kuratorinnen Britta Peters, freie Ausstellungsmacherin aus Hamburg, und Marianne Wagner, Kuratorin für Gegenwartskunst am LWL-Museum für Kunst und Kultur, Münster, entstand das Ausstellungskonzept zur fünften Ausgabe der Skulptur Projekte.

Veranstalter der Skulptur Projekte ist das LWL-Museum für Kunst und Kultur, Träger sind der Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe (LWL) und die Stadt Münster.

The Skulptur Projekte have taken place in Münster every ten years since 1977. The exhibition invites artists from all over the world to develop site-specific works for the public space – sculptures, but also temporary installations, performances and works in other mediums.

The thirty-five projects created for the 2017 exhibition ‘inscribe’ themselves in the city’s structural, historical and social environment and point beyond its boundaries. At the same time, they manifest reflections on the concept of sculpture, the relationship between public and private space in times of increasing digitalization and a range of issues posed by the globalized present.

The Skulptur Projekte are further enhanced by satellite projects and partnerships with other cultural institutions in Münster.

The artistic director of the Skulptur Projekte is Kasper König, who is working with Britta Peters, a free-lance curator based in Hamburg, and Marianne Wagner, the curator of contemporary art at the LWL-Museum für Kunst und Kultur, Münster, to develop the exhibition concept for the fifth edition of the Skulptur Projekte.

Skulptur Projekte is a cooperative project of Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe (LWL) and the city of Münster. The LWL-Museum für Kunst und Kultur organizes the exhibition.
